Rosatom Advances Voluntary Certification for IT Solutions in Nuclear Infrastructure

Rosatom State Corporation has embarked on creating a voluntary certification system for IT solutions. This initiative will enable the assessment of how well software and IT equipment meet required standards for functionality and reliability, particularly in facilities that are part of critical information infrastructure within the nuclear sector. The goal is to ensure that essential digital systems operate with proven safety, performance, and resilience in demanding environments.

Speaking about the program, Evgeny Abakumov, who leads information infrastructure for Rosatom, emphasized a clear objective: the software and hardware used at key critical information infrastructure facilities should originate in Russia, covering every stage of development and production. This emphasis on domestic origins aims to strengthen sovereignty and reliability across the nuclear industry’s digital backbone.

Rosatom also plans to work closely with government regulators and software manufacturers to align the certification standards with national policies and industry needs. The collaboration is intended to create a transparent, verifiable pathway for vendors and facilities, ensuring that the most sensitive IT components can be trusted for safe and continuous operation.
