A student from the Perm Territory has built a small kitchen robot capable of slicing fruit and vegetables to prepare salads. This milestone was shared with socialbites.ca by Promobot, the company that inspired the project rooted in a Russian student initiative.

The work centers on the Promobot Rooky manipulator. A teenage creator wired a robotic arm to hold a kitchen knife, turning it into a potential helper for home kitchens. In the released clip, the robotic arm demonstrates slicing a banana into evenly sized pieces.

The inventor envisions the robot becoming a practical kitchen assistant in Russian households, aiding in tasks such as meat preparation or ingredient slicing for salads. The concept aims to bring a reliable, hands-free tool into everyday cooking routines.

Looking ahead, the creator hopes to expand the robot’s repertoire to include spinning motions that could assist in preparing soups, broths, pasta sauces, and other side dishes. Such capabilities would broaden the machine’s utility beyond simple chopping.

Earlier, researchers at NTI Competence Center, a lab affiliated with Innopolis University, conducted tests on an Avatar system designed for remotely operating industrial robots. This work highlights ongoing efforts to advance robotics in both domestic and industrial contexts, complementing the kitchen-oriented project described above. (socialbites.ca)
