The MS-21, a medium-range, narrow-body jet powered by Russian PD-14 engines, is set for serial deliveries to begin in 2024. This update comes from TASS and cites the press service of Rostec State Corporation as the source of information.

Rostec confirms that the latest MS-21 will enter serial production next year. In the initial phase, six aircraft are planned, with production pace gradually increasing as the program gains momentum and capacity expands to meet demand.

In 2024, a total of 14 PD-14 engines, branded as the Perspective Engine with 14 tons of thrust, are expected to be delivered. Mass production of these engines recently began at UEC-Perm Motors, marking an important milestone for the MS-21 program and its domestic powerplant strategy.

Earlier reporting indicated that the MS-21 would feature a domestically produced wing made from composite materials and would operate with PD-14 powerplants. The ongoing validation process includes approval from Rosaviatsia, the Russian aviation authority, underscoring a rigorous certification path for the aircraft.

Sergey Chemezov, who previously led Rostec, has stated that 2024 will see mass production of the MS-21 using components produced entirely within Russia. This emphasis on domestic sourcing supports broader industrial goals and export ambitions for Russia’s aviation sector, reflecting a push toward greater self-reliance and national capability in aircraft manufacturing.
