Mercedes Pay+ fingerprint payments expand in-car digital transactions

Starting in March 2023, Mercedes-Benz introduced a fingerprint-based payment option called Mercedes Pay+ for digital services in Germany. This information comes from the engine online portal. The system is already active in several models produced for the German market, including the EQS, EQE, S-Class, C-Class, and GLC series. Mercedes Pay+ works by integrating Visa Delegated Authentication and Cloud Token Framework technologies directly into the vehicle’s software, adding an extra layer of security to protect payment information while using the car.

With the MBUX multimedia system, owners of modern Mercedes vehicles can authorize payments and unlock new car features with their fingerprint. This approach supports rapid and secure feature development that remains accessible after the vehicle is purchased. There are plans to extend this capability to payments for fuel and vehicle charging in the near future. At present, Mercedes owners in Germany and several other markets can already pay for fuel using a PIN entered in the Mercedes me app or through the MBUX interface.

To complete a fingerprint payment in MBUX, the driver must link a Visa credit or debit card to their Mercedes me account. It has not been disclosed whether the service will eventually support Mastercard cards.

Earlier reports indicated that NSPK was preparing to introduce a new payment method using Mir cards on smartphones via a QR code, signaling ongoing moves toward expanding digital payment options beyond conventional card schemes.
