Kaspersky Tool to Detect iOS Triangulation Spyware and Related Findings

Kaspersky Lab has rolled out a complimentary tool designed to identify Triangulation spyware on iOS devices. The SecureList portal provides comprehensive instructions for locating Trojan specifications and understanding the detection workflow.

Managing Triangulation on a device requires backing up the smartphone and running the triangle_control utility on a computer that supports Windows, Linux, or macOS. If the spyware is found, the utility will display the message DETECTED. Other possible outcomes include DOUBT, which translates to ambiguous in Russian, and No trace of reconciliation detected, which corresponds to the Russian phrase for no trace of reconciliation found.

In early June, authorities reported an intelligence operation involving infected Apple smartphones requested by American intelligence services, with supporting confirmation from Kaspersky Lab. The research indicates that infection can occur through a covert attachment in iMessage conversations that installs spyware. Apple has rejected any link or cooperation with intelligence agencies.

Analysts note that iPhone infections can be detected by examining data traffic, a method highlighted by industry experts in regional media. This perspective emphasizes the role of network monitoring and traffic analysis as part of a broader security approach. [Attribution: Gazeta.ru]
