Dmitry Peskov, who leads the ANO NTI Platform and serves as the Special Representative of the President for Digital and Technological Development, suggested a stark scenario for the future: nations might opt for what he calls an islandized path, pursuing sovereignty with a strong emphasis on technology. This perspective came from discussions reported by a major Russian business news outlet.

He argued that no country has yet reached a level of technological supremacy that would render it unchallenged. The question remains: what is the benefit of such dominance if it does not exist for others to emulate? Peskov believes that global life is shifting, and in the decades ahead, a country’s survival may hinge on achieving a pronounced edge in technology.

According to him, the most plausible outcome for developing nations is this islandized trajectory. In his framing, it implies a breakdown of broad globalization, strains in global tech markets, and the rise of national technical standards that protect and propagate domestic capabilities.

He also noted that the major global players—alongside Russia—could pursue a similar route. The United States, China, and India were highlighted as potential adopters of national-centric technological strategies, reshaping the balance of innovation and influence on the world stage.

On the industrial front, there is mention of plans in Russia to advance domestic manufacturing capabilities. A new generation of 3D printers is being developed to produce components and even body parts for the automotive sector, aiming to reduce reliance on imported parts and strengthen home-based production lines. This move underscores a broader push toward self-sufficiency in critical industries and the strategic value of additive manufacturing in a future shaped by selective globalization.
