A resident of Ningde, in Fujian province, China, shared a striking story on social media about an iPhone 12 Pro that dropped from a 26th floor balcony yet emerged unharmed. Local coverage from MyDrivers corroborated the incident, emphasizing the remarkable resilience of the device in this extraordinary fall.
According to the device owner, the handset slipped from a pocket while a blanket was being hung on the balcony. The social post suggested the iPhone landed on a foam platform positioned on the second-floor level, yet still managed to stay functional after impact.
Journalists noted that even in this scenario the iPhone demonstrated its durability: it fell straight down and continued to operate without issues. MyDrivers reported that the phone, after briefly lodging itself in a wall, was able to power back up and resume normal use.
Apple’s design for the iPhone 12 Pro includes several protective features aimed at reducing damage from drops. A durable ceramic shield front, a frosted glass back, and a stainless steel frame all contribute to enhanced resilience. Nevertheless, the record of a fall from such a height still raises questions about the limits of this protection when an object plummets from the upper floors of a building.
Earlier reports from residents in China mentioned another incident involving an iPhone. A customer described an iPhone XR catching fire and exploding after striking the ground, underscoring that even premium devices can experience dangerous outcomes in high-impact falls.
