Fplus, a Russian technology company, has unveiled the Flaptop i5-16512 laptop, which runs the native OSnova operating system. This marks a notable milestone as the first consumer-oriented notebook to ship with OSnova on the market, according to reports from the iXBT portal.
The OSnova platform behind the project, code named Foundation, is a Linux-based system that has historically been deployed in corporate settings. Advocates for this operating system highlight strong protection for personal data and a design that can be adapted for home use as well. Foundation includes a built-in suite of productivity tools such as MyOffice, along with preinstalled web browsers including Yandex Browser and Chromium, and Konqueror. It also ships with the Wine compatibility layer, enabling users to run many Windows applications without leaving the OSnova ecosystem.
The Flaptop i5-16512 is powered by an Intel Core i5-1235U processor, paired with 16 GB of RAM and a 512 GB solid-state drive. Its 15.6-inch display delivers Full HD resolution for clear visuals, and the battery life is rated at up to seven hours under typical use. Fplus claims that the entire Flaptop series is manufactured in Russia at its own facility located in Valishchevo, a village in the Moscow region, underscoring the company’s commitment to domestic production.
While the Flaptop i5-16512 is expected to hit the market soon, no price has been published yet. Industry observers are watching closely as the product lineup illustrates a growing interest in Linux-based consumer laptops that blend open-source flexibility with practical performance.
Earlier this year, Insider highlighted another notable concept in the portable computing space, a Lenovo laptop featuring a transparent display. Such introductions reflect ongoing experimentation in hardware design and user experience, illustrating a broader trend toward more transparent and immersive devices.
