Sony Interactive Entertainment hosted a focused Square Enix State of Play presentation dedicated entirely to Final Fantasy XVI. The event showcased a 25-minute 4K gameplay segment that highlighted intense battles against a variety of bosses, cinematic cutscenes, and breathtaking landscapes. Viewers also got a look at the world map and the Cellar, a locale where the hero can unwind, train, refine abilities, and absorb the state of the world.
In the game’s narrative, the protagonist Clive embarks on three distinct growth arcs. He is joined by a controllable wolf companion and a cast of diverse allies who contribute to the journey.
The musical heartbeat of Final Fantasy XVI is provided by renowned Japanese composer and vocalist Kenshi Enezu, who also lends his talents to the widely recognized opening theme of the Chainsaw Man anime. Naoki Yoshida, the game’s producer, has spoken about Enezu’s deep love for the Final Fantasy series and his enthusiasm for taking part in the project.
Final Fantasy XVI was released for PlayStation 5 on June 22, 2023, and it was announced that the game would include Russian subtitles for regional audiences.
Previously covered by the site, the project draws attention not only for its ambitious visuals but also for the influence of key industry figures, including those associated with the Dark Souls lineage, who influenced player expectations and discussion around the title in 2023.
