Developers from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Pskov, Omsk, and Nizhny Novgorod are building a computer game titled Father Cthulhu. The project draws inspiration from the mythos of American writer H. P. Lovecraft, and the team shares progress updates through their News channel.

Isaac James Studio, the team behind the tactical turn-based project, comprises graduates from leading Russian universities. Their approach leans on the classic Soviet board game Battleship, reimagined for modern strategy play with grids, ranged maneuvers, and tactical planning.

Studio head Vladislav Medelis described the game’s world as flooded settlements. The player’s objective is to locate and destroy a Monster whose tentacles block the exit from each area, forcing careful route planning and resource management.

The studio expects to release Father Cthulhu next year, initially on the VK Play platform and subsequently on Steam. In the meantime, the team is actively seeking a publisher to support broader distribution and localization.

The development uses domestically produced software tools. The emphasis on homegrown solutions underscores a commitment to bolstering the local tech ecosystem while keeping production within national boundaries.

In a media interview, Svyatoslav Pegov, director at the Center for Sports Programming, Algorithmic Robotics, Cyber Security and Cyber Sports at Ufa University of Science and Technology, argued that the project deserves attention. He noted that enthusiasts without major funding contribute to its creation, and that independent developers are capable of bringing fresh, innovative solutions.

Reports from early November, from Helltides, place Elon Musk among the top twenty Diablo 4 players worldwide, ranking nineteenth. The note highlights how large tech personalities occasionally intersect with mainstream gaming communities.

Earlier, the Russian game Smuta had a console release, marking another milestone in the countries growing indie scene.
