Italian company Bending Spoons has become the new owner of Evernote and has carried out layoffs that affect all 98 remaining Evernote employees in the United States and Chile in a second round. The news outlet Portal, citing posts from former staff on social networks, first reported the wave of dismissals as part of this broader restructuring.

A source told the outlet that Bending Spoons confirmed all former Evernote employees were let go. One person described the situation plainly: there is no one left who worked at Evernote before the acquisition. This reflects a rapid shift in the company’s staffing as it pivots under new ownership.

Bending Spoons described Evernote’s renewed focus on artificial intelligence as the driver behind product updates and new features in the upcoming version. Evernote, long known as a note taking and storage solution, remains available across browsers and mobile apps, allowing users to create, organize, and access notes from multiple devices.

In a conversation with Portal, Bending Spoons shared that the team has more than 50 ideas for AI powered enhancements planned for Evernote. The company aims to reimagine how notes are organized, searched, and utilized in daily workflows, leveraging AI to streamline user experiences.

One of the proposed features is AI Note Cleaner. This tool would automatically sort notes into folders based on content and other attributes while also correcting typos and punctuation to improve readability. It would act as a smart organizer, reducing manual tagging and helping users locate information faster.

The second concept, AI Search, is designed to enable natural language queries. Users could ask questions in everyday language and receive quick, relevant responses drawn from the content stored inside Evernote. This feature would aim to enhance retrieval accuracy and speed, making user data more instantly accessible.

Additionally, a former IT professional reflected on career choices, noting a shift away from a banking role and expressing regret about that path. This personal anecdote underscores the broader impact of technology sector changes on individual career trajectories and industry opportunities.
