In a data center operated by a Swiss company, a robotic dog from Digital Realty carries out regular patrols across the facility. Reports from DataCenterDynamics confirm this deployment and its routine operation.

The robot, named Anymal and developed by Anybotics, resembles the widely known Spot robot from Boston Dynamics in its quadrupedal form. It reportedly roams the European facility’s rooms and corridors in Zurich, performing scheduled inspections as part of daily operations.

According to the study, the unit conducts nine distinct inspection tasks each day, all orchestrated through the Anymal API. During its two-hour patrols, the robot collects a mix of visual imagery, thermal data, and acoustic measurements. Upon completing a round, it returns to its docking station to recharge, preparing for the next cycle.

Beyond basic surveillance, the Anymal system is capable of identifying data center anomalies. It can flag issues such as overheating cables or pumps that exhibit unusual vibration, prompting a warning to operators so corrective actions can be taken promptly.

Meanwhile, Alphabet Corporation, Google’s parent company, has paused further development of Everyday Robots, a project aimed at bringing simplified automation to homes and offices. This leadership decision has shaped the future trajectory of the company’s robotics initiatives and their role in commercial environments.
