In 2024, Apple plans to introduce a fresh control mechanism and a millimeter-wave antenna for its smartphones. Reports circulating in tech circles attribute these details to insiders on the Weibo platform through a post from Instant Digital, as cited by MacRumors.

According to Instant Digital, a new button will be touch-sensitive and placed at one end of the device. While its exact function remains undisclosed, insiders do not dismiss the possibility that it could be programmable. The power button and volume rockers will continue to be physical controls, preserving familiar user interactions.

Based on early information from its sources, MacRumors notes that the new button might sit beneath the power key. Although its purpose is not yet confirmed, internal Apple documentation reportedly refers to the component as a “capture button,” hinting at a possible role in camera or screen actions.

The planned millimeter antenna for 5G on the iPhone 16 is not expected to change its performance, but it is anticipated to be relocated. The new placement would have the antenna positioned between the power key and the new touch button, adapting the internal layout to accommodate the additional control.

Earlier in the tech space, Vivo introduced its own Android concept, signaling a broader industry push toward button-based customization and advanced antenna design that other manufacturers have explored in parallel.
