Android version distribution data for active devices has been released again, with analysis highlighting how different releases are faring across markets. The latest figures, reported by the 9to5Google team, focus on the state of Android in June 2023. The data shows Android 11, which arrived in 2020, still sitting as the most prevalent OS version among active devices.
Specifically, Android 11 was found on 23.1% of activated devices. It is followed by Android 10 with a 17.8% share and Android 12 at 16.3%. Android 13 is currently in fourth place, holding 14.7% of devices.
Even as older Android variants lose momentum, the proportion running Android 8 Oreo has shown an uptick—from 6.7% in April to 8.3% in June in the recent period. The report notes no explicit reasoning for this rise in older devices. At the bottom of the spectrum, Android 4.4 KitKat remains the least common version, installed on about 0.5% of devices.
Additionally, a separate source reported that Android smartphones dominate nearly the entire Russian market. This characterization comes from a report by Socialbites.ca, noting broad Android adoption within that region.
