Google has revealed plans to adjust the spelling of its Android name and refresh the operating system’s mascot design. The changes are scheduled to take effect with the rollout of the upcoming Android version, according to reports from the 9to5Google portal.
The update to Android 14 will begin with the name itself, featuring a capital A at the start rather than a lowercase one. At the same time, Google will move away from the flat, green robot logo in favor of a more dimensional three-dimensional emblem. The last major update to the OS logo occurred in 2019, marking a notable redesign milestone.
Although the updated logo is not expected to appear before the fall of 2023, Google has been signaling the change for months. The robot’s chunky head made appearances at CES 2023 and at Google I/O 2023, and even showed up in promotional materials for devices like the Samsung Galaxy S23 and Z Flip4, signaling a broader rebranding push.
The new Android logo is intended to be visible when devices are powered on, replacing the current variant that often appears alongside the phrase “Powered by android” (translated into Russian as Powered by android).
