Samsung India Electronics has announced that it is ready to negotiate with workers at its factory in Tamil Nadu, who have been on strike since early September. With reference to the Press Trust of India (PtoI) agency on this subject reports TASS.
A company spokesman said the goal is to resolve all issues, including wages, benefits and working conditions, through direct negotiation with workers. The company called on the strikers to return to work. The decision to meet the strikers was also sent to the Tamil Nadu government, which insisted on a speedy resolution of the conflict.
Last week, workers went on a one-day hunger strike to draw the attention of Tamil Nadu authorities to increase wages and reduce working hours. The Center of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) also supported the hunger strike and stated that the strike would continue until the workers’ demands are fully met.
The strike at the Samsung factory in Sriperumbudur began on September 9. More than a thousand employees of the enterprise took part in it. Employees are demanding higher wages and shorter working hours. The current salary of the worker is 25 thousand rupees (about 28.6 thousand rubles, – socialbites.ca), the required salary is 36 thousand rupees (about 41 thousand rubles).
