WhatsApp has stopped working on devices running KaiOS 2.5.4 and above. This was noticed by Reddit users, one of whom, with the username u/m-ago, reported that the messaging app had stopped working on his Nokia 6300 4G phone. perceived Editors of the FoneArena publication.
The issue turned out to be widespread: after installing WhatsApp build 2.2329.13 for KaiOS, users started reporting that they were unable to log into their accounts. This was due to an “unexpected error.” An attempt to fix the issue by installing an earlier version of WhatsApp 2.2329.10 was unsuccessful, as the app checks the time and version when verifying a phone number, resulting in a “critical error.”
Later, Messenger’s technical support told one of the users that from now on, only users who logged in before June 25, 2024 will be able to use WhatsApp on KaiOS. But even their apps will be disabled in February 2025. For others, the messenger is no longer available. It also turned out that WhatsApp developers will no longer be releasing updates for KaiOS.
So the list of phones that will end WhatsApp support includes JioPhone, JioPhone 2, Nokia 800 Tough, Nokia 2720 Flip, Nokia 2760 Flip, Nokia 2780 Flip, Nokia 6300 4G, Nokia 8000 4G, and Nokia 8110 4G, as well as some Alcatel and Energizer models. Messenger will also stop working on KaiOS 3.0.
