Russian entrepreneur and programmer Pavel Durov announced a “wall” feature on Telegram in honor of April Fool’s Day. Update concept developer showed on the official Russian Telegram channel.
Durov posted a screenshot of the profile interface on his Telegram channel. A new tab named “wall” appears under “posts,” “media,” and “files.” The wall in Telegram, designed by Durov, is a broadcast stream in which the user’s subscribers can leave entries. Entries can be text posts, images and videos, as well as graffiti.
Most likely Telegram developers do not actually plan to add a wall to the messenger. This publication of the entrepreneur is probably his response to the famous meme “Durov, bring back the wall”. It appeared in 2010, when the general director of VKontakte, Durov, made changes to the social network interface, replacing the wall with a microblog. Later, the update caused huge criticism from users. Public discontent resulted in the viral slogan “Durov, bring back the wall.”
Telegram is one of the most popular instant messengers in the whole world. As of March 2024, the service was used by more than 900 million people monthly. Durov launched Telegram in 2013, shortly before leaving VKontakte.
