WhatsApp developers are planning to add voice message decryption feature to the Android version of the messenger. In this respect reports WABetaInfo portal.

The voice message writing feature appeared in Messenger on iPhone last year. Now the developers plan to add it to the application on Android – this feature was noticed in the beta version of WhatsApp under the number 2.24.7.8.

A screenshot published by WABetaInfo shows that the test version of WhatsApp asks users to download an additional 150MB of data so that the app can learn to transcribe voice messages. According to the developers, voice-to-text translation will occur locally on the user’s device to prevent messages from leaking. Once the add-on pack is downloaded, WhatsApp integrates transcription so users can read voice messages.

A similar function is provided in many other instant messengers, including Telegram. In the Pavel Durov application it is available only to owners of the Premium subscription and you do not need to download additional data to activate it. It will most likely be free on WhatsApp.

It is not yet clear in which languages the new feature works on WhatsApp. Transcription of voice messages is still in development and testing, so the timing of its implementation is unknown.

Previously reportedPassword lock feature will be added to WhatsApp on Android.
