Thuraya is preparing to launch a new smartphone called Skyphone, which will allow users not only to send SOS and text messages, but also to make calls via the company’s satellites. Unlike competitors, this device should work even in Russia, reports Mobile phone portal.
Thuraya Skyphone will have a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with tempered Gorilla Glass. The smartphone will also be equipped with an octa-core Qualcomm chip, triple rear cameras and a 50-megapixel front camera. The device will have IP67 protection, a retractable antenna for connecting to the satellite network and Android 14.
Skyphone will go on sale in the third quarter of 2024. The satellite communication function in modern smartphones such as the iPhone 15 does not work in Russia. In the case of Thuraya, communication through GTNT Thuraya will be possible in all regions covered by the company’s satellites or partners, including Russia.
The price of the new product is not yet known. The previous device of the brand cost about 150 thousand rubles in the Russian market.
