Amid online debates over fake news about the shutdown of Google Gmail email service, Elon Musk on the social network X (formerly Twitter) hinted at the emergence of the XMail email service. In this respect reports PCMag portal.

One of X’s employees wrote to Musk: “When will we build XMail?” To which the businessman replied: “It is already on its way.” Elon Musk did not specify whether this was a joke or whether he actually plans to create his own email service, XMail, based on the X social network.

In addition, earlier online users started discussing the claim that the Gmail service will be shut down from Google in 2024. But this is not true: Google will reject support for the old HTML version of Gmail that is only used on older computers. Gmail will continue to operate as usual and be available to everyone.

Shortly after acquiring Twitter in October 2022, Elon Musk repeatedly talked about his plans to turn X into a so-called super app that would be not only a social network but also an American analogue of WeChat. For example, it was learned that a payment system similar to PayPal and Apple Pay will emerge based on the social network at the end of the year. In 2024, the social network also launched video and voice calls, which were first available only to X Premium subscribers and are now available to all users.

Previously Elon Musk criticized Google for the unethical functioning of the Gemini neural network.
