A large segment of Russian Internet users, about 57 percent, report feeling worn out from the constant use of digital devices. A notable portion—roughly one in ten—says they cannot picture life without a smartphone, according to a study conducted by Hi-Tech Mail.ru.
When asked how they cope with technostress, people most often turn to staying connected with loved ones and tackling household chores, a combination chosen by about 21 percent of respondents. Engaging in hobbies and reading also helps, cited by 17 percent and 15 percent respectively, as ways to ease the pressure of daily tech use.
Awareness of digital detox concepts remains modest, with only about 31 percent of participants recognizing the term. Meanwhile, half of those surveyed feel confident they could spend a day without their smartphone, even if they admit to daily use of the device. Approximately 37 percent say they could surrender their phones for just a few hours before feeling the urge to reconnect.
When evaluating device reliance, game consoles emerge as the least essential for a portion of respondents, 18 percent in this group. Smart watches, tablets, and headphones are also among the technologies that around 16 percent would be willing to cut from their routines for a week. In contrast, televisions and desktop computers hold higher importance for many; 14 percent would part with the former and 12 percent with the latter.
To ease the visual strain caused by constant smartphone use, most people look for simple adjustments. About 44 percent choose to lower screen brightness, 30 percent switch to a dark theme, and 22 percent enable modes that reduce blue light exposure. Limiting app usage is a less popular tactic, adopted by roughly 3 percent of those surveyed.
