The Central Bank described a typical victim of cyber fraudsters in Russia

In 2023, the most frequent victim of fraudsters was a working woman aged 25-44, living in the city, with an average income level and education. In this respect reported Press center of the Central Bank of Russia (CB). According to the results of the survey in which approximately 395 thousand citizens participated, the portrait of the fraud victim was compiled.

Survey results showed that women make up 55.5% of fraud victims in Russia by the end of 2023. A year ago, this share was 11% lower.

Survey participants noted that the most common form of fraud in the Russian Federation is phone fraud: call and/or SMS. The Central Bank also noted that there was an increase in the number of fraud cases using instant messaging programs.

The regulator said the number of citizens encountering intruders increased throughout the year. Of these, 10% were affected. In most cases, victims suffered losses of less than 20 thousand rubles.

“Victims often give their card information and codes to fraudsters via SMS or transfer money to themselves,” the Central Bank said.

The amount of money stolen by hackers in 2023 grew up doubled.
