The share of Telegram users has reached almost half of the population of Russia

The share of Russians using Telegram messenger on a daily basis increased by more than 20% during the year and reached almost half of the country’s total population over 12 years old. This was reported by RBC Excerpt from Mediascope’s research.

The report notes that Telegram’s average daily coverage rate at the end of December 2023 was 47%, compared to 39% a year ago and 20% in January 2022.

This allowed Telegram to take fourth place in the list of the most popular Internet resources according to Mediascope. The top spot continues to be WhatsApp, with a reach of 67%, up from 61% in Q4 2022. Yandex (56%) and Google (53%) are in second and third place, respectively. VKontakte ranks fifth with an average daily reach of 45%, and YouTube ranks sixth with 44%.

In the group of users aged 12 to 17, Telegram is the absolute leader with 76% coverage, while for VKontakte and YouTube the figure is lower at 69% and 68% respectively.

Additionally, the share of Russians who visit Telegram at least once a month reached 68% in the fourth quarter of 2023, accounting for nearly 7% of total internet consumption. Overall, instant messaging applications account for 18% of all internet consumption.
