During the CES 2024 technology exhibition in Las Vegas, Sony introduced a proprietary extended reality headset (Extended Reality, XR) that could potentially rival Apple’s Vision Pro. In this respect reports Gadgets 360 version.

The new product doesn’t have a product name yet, but Sony is positioning it as “a device for creating and interacting with spatial content.” Spatial content refers to 3D models, interfaces, and other content that can be played and edited using special devices.

Sony offers two types of controllers specifically for interacting with this type of content. One is a pointer similar to most modern remote controls for VR headsets, and the second is a smart ring that fits on your finger.

Sony’s XR headset features a pair of 4K OLED displays that cover 96% of the DCI-P3 color gamut. A custom Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 processor from Qualcomm is responsible for the performance. Proprietary rendering technology delivers realistic, high-resolution textures in real time.

Sony positions the new product as a professional device for designers, as well as representatives of the gaming and film industries.

Previously Apple clarified Vision Pro launch details.
