The studio said in a statement that the decision to close Fntastic was due to the financial collapse of The Day Before, which entered early access on Steam on December 7 and attracted the attention of hundreds of thousands of players on Twitch. The game was at the top of the wishlist of players on Stream for a long time, but users who purchased the project were not satisfied with its quality, and as a result, a day later the game entered the top 3 lowest-rated games in Twitch history. As of December 11, The Day Before has approximately 20% positive reviews.
Fntastic’s official statement emphasizes that the studio may continue the development of The Day Before. However, the developers assured that the project’s servers will continue to work.
“We really wanted to release patches to unlock the game’s potential, but unfortunately we don’t have the money to continue working. It is important to emphasize that we did not take money from players during the development of The Day Before: there were no pre-orders or crowdfunding campaigns. We apologize if we did not meet your expectations. We did everything we could, but unfortunately we misjudged our abilities. In a statement, the studio stated that game development is an extremely complex endeavor.
