The Chrome browser is nearing the end of support on older versions of Android. Later browser versions will stop working on millions of devices, reported Google on support site.
Starting in early 2024, to use new versions of the popular Chrome browser, you’ll need a smartphone or tablet with pre-installed Android 8 or higher. This means millions of devices running Android 7 and earlier won’t be able to get updated, secure versions of Chrome.
At the end of November, the current version of the browser supported by Android 7 was Chrome 119. The company warns users about the necessity of updating their devices to Android 8 and above. Otherwise, they will not be able to download the Chrome 120 version that will be released next year.
Currently, the most common version of Android is 11 edition and the current version is Android 14. However, many users continue to use old smartphones that do not receive new features, capabilities and patches against emerging vulnerabilities.
However, users who cannot afford to buy a new device will be able to download alternative browsers from other developers.
