Modern screens of Apple gadgets have a viewing angle of 170 degrees, so strangers can always look into someone else’s iPhone, iPad or Mac and receive information not intended for them. Apple recently patented two solutions that limit the visibility of device screens and could solve the surveillance problem. In this respect reports MacRumor’s publication.

The first solution is called “Protective Film for Curved Screens”. It is a special coating that limits the spread of light in one direction on the screen. However, the user who is directly in front of the screen will see the image in true resolution and brightness. An outside observer will see either a dark screen or a blurry image due to a different perspective.

The name of the second patent is “Displays with adjustable viewing angles”. It involves the use of screens with adjustable polarization. For this, both mechanical elements and a special liquid crystal element that limits the visibility of certain colors can be used.

MacRumors writes that the appearance of patents does not guarantee the implementation of the described technologies. And if Apple decides to implement them, that’s unlikely to happen in the near future.
