Spotify has released a new version of its artist copyright policy; This states that the platform will not pay artists for songs with 999 or fewer streams per year. In this respect reports Engadget version.
Spotify said this was done to combat scammers on the platform. Money that previously went to minor artists and alleged scammers will be redistributed to people whose tracks get 1,000 or more streams a year.
At the same time, Spotify canceled some payments for so-called noise content, such as rain or forest sounds. The reduction will only affect noise recordings lasting less than two minutes. Additionally, under the new policy, royalties for recreational trails will be monetized at a lower rate than trails created by humans.
In the new policy, the company stated that it will not receive a penny from the determined deductions, and all savings will go to the artists. Spotify believes the updated rules will bring artists an additional $1 billion over five years.
Previously the court in Moscow fine Spotify for 6 million rubles.
