According to the research conducted by the TelecomDaily agency, the average mobile internet speed in Moscow increased from 51 Mbit/s to 63.2 Mbit/s, while in the regions it decreased from 20 Mbit/s to 18.7 Mbit/s.
“The increase in speed in Moscow is explained by the fact that the main investment flows of operators are directed towards capital. This is the largest market in the country and competition forces us to constantly improve the quality of communication. At the same time, federal government institutions and large businesses are concentrated in the capital, and the issue of maintaining high-quality communications with fast Internet access is in many respects a necessity,” says Denis Kuskov, CEO of TelecomDaily.
The situation is different in the regions. According to the Ministry of Digital Development, mobile Internet traffic in Russia in the first half of 2023 increased by 16%, reaching 19.6 billion GB. However, according to the newspaper, operators cannot meet the increasing demand for mobile internet due to equipment shortages due to sanctions. As a result, the speed of mobile internet decreases in the regions.
The Ministry of Digital Development claims that the mobile Internet speed in Russia is at a stable level and there is no decrease. The Ministry also admits that due to the characteristics of the market, the capital is ahead of the regions in terms of network speed.
