By 2025, only 60% of companies will be able to completely replace imported foreign software, and the transition for the rest will take until 2030. This is stated in a study by Russian firewall developer NGFW Ideco, the results of which are available on socialbites.ca.
The Russian software market is not as diverse and broad as the foreign market, which limits the choice of businesses, especially when it comes to complex and specific solutions. In this context, only about 25-30% of businesses have successfully abandoned foreign software. Experts say that most of them consist of state-owned companies (86%) and private enterprises and startups (24%), which is a low result compared to current realities.
According to Ideco, 13% of companies that have not switched to domestic software stated that replacing foreign solutions has not yet provided sufficient functionality. 28% of companies do not trust domestic software, and 52% are delayed in the transition due to the difficulty of transferring all organizational processes to other equipment. At the same time, 7% of respondents could not answer the reason for the delay in import substitution.
Russian President Vladimir Putin signed Decree No. 250 dated May 1, 2022, stating that all Russian companies should switch from using foreign solutions to domestic solutions. One of the main reasons for the introduction of such a task is Russia’s sovereignty and the desire for independence from foreign technologies. The transition to Russian solutions will allow you to control your own information networks, ensuring the safety, security and confidentiality of data from Russian companies.
