A new survivalist with a quirky mechanism for gathering funny creatures Palworld captured the hearts of critics and gamers alike, but its playful style and humorous mood can hide a surprisingly deep game. This guide collects all the essential information to help players quickly get oriented in the world of Palov.
Palworld Guides
Where to build a base
Landing in the open world, players may face a clear challenge: where should a base go? The game offers little guidance on how location affects water access or resource proximity, so choosing wisely matters. The base’s position is tied to the Pal container location, which acts as the center of the area you intend to inhabit and can only be one per base site.
Since Palworld is a survival game at its core, death means losing all carried resources. The loot bag stays at the death site, and reaching it again can be tricky. A key tip for base placement is to position near fast travel structures. When the map is opened, statues appear that enable quick travel between zones.
Activating statues lets players switch quickly between them, but this only works if one of the already active statues is interacted with. It makes sense to place the base within reasonable distance to avoid wasting precious minutes traveling. Beyond that, the exact base location matters less.
How to move fast
By default, the player can sprint a bit, limited by stamina. Investing in gains boosts the duration of this faster movement. As noted above, activating travel statues is crucial. It allows instant teleportation through explored territory and saves time when traversing the map.
Another speed option unlocks after some progression. Each Pal type offers unique advantages, and some can function as support partners. Remember that every pal has its own speed, so riding a boar might feel slower than riding a wolf.
Taking a moment to learn a standard parachute is worthwhile. It enables sliding down high cliffs while stamina holds. Some Pal varieties can replace a parachute and act as a glider, Selarai for example.
Important note: to unlock all Pal abilities including horse riding, players must first research the Pal equipment workshop in the technology menu and then unlock improvements for specific animals. This requires steadily increasing the hero’s level.
What’s healthy on the menu?
Opening the menu reveals several sections:
- Inventory
- My friends
- Technologies
- Encyclopedia of Palov
- Guild
- Institutions
The inventory shows what the player is carrying and the hero’s attributes, which can be upgraded through leveling up.
‘My Pals’ are the creatures currently in the player’s care. Their mechanics are explained later in this guide.
“Technologies” are recipes that unlock new structures as players study them. Technologies are tiered and require points for mastery earned at each new level. There is a column named “ancient technologies” which includes special recipes unlocked after defeating bosses. Each boss provides unique ancient technology points.
“Encyclopedia of Palov” helps players understand what each creature can do. Finding pal companions who can work on the base without direct input speeds up resource replenishment.
Cooperative play uses “guilds,” which are still developing. The Settings menu contains a Survival Guide and other game parameters for reference.
All essential information to solve common problems is gathered here.
Where to start building a base
To construct simple buildings and tools, stone, wood, and Palzium shards are needed. A separate guide covers Palzium collection. Here the mechanism is examined as a whole.
Stone and wood are gathered by striking the corresponding objects. The character automatically targets resources. Over time, enough materials stack for a Pal container and a primitive workbench. The workbench enables crafting tools such as a pickaxe and an axe to speed resource extraction.
Every item, structure, and tool has durability. The more it is used, the faster it wears down. Fortunately, repairs are possible by using the repair table with the right ingredients.
How to catch Palov
Any creature encountered can be added to the collection as a potential worker or fighter. Catching requires spheres crafted at the workbench. Merely throwing a ball is not enough. The aiming reticle shows a catch probability, which rises when the Pal is weakened in combat. It is important to deal damage without killing the creature. Sometimes catching without dealing damage is possible, depending on probability.
There is an exception for particularly strong and large friends. Ordinary balls won’t suffice; an upgraded version is needed and is unlocked at level 14.
In the future, catching tools can be upgraded to improve the process. More details on catching creatures are available in the Palov guide sections.
How to make Palov work
Captured Pals must be brought to the Pal container at the base to replenish health and to assign them to tasks. The creatures will autonomously work based on their skills, gathering resources within the base area.
The container shows tasks to raise the base level. A higher base level allows more Pals to be deployed for work. Tasks typically involve constructing infrastructure to speed up resource acquisition.
Pal friends have needs like hunger and mood. Filling feeders with food and providing beds helps maintain performance. If there isn’t enough space, an animal may become upset, negatively affecting work output.
Care for moods to avoid illness, fatigue, or depression. Building a hot spring can improve mood, but it may not unlock immediately. A common remedy is to rotate Pal between storage and other creatures. Over time, performance improves and Pal can be redeployed. If a Pal falls in battle, it can be revived by placing it back into storage.
How to fight
Battles can be fought directly or through Pals. A basic club emerges first, followed by a bow and different arrows. Different arrows suit different bows, so using a regular arrow with a poisonous bow is ineffective; a specialized poisonous bow must be studied and crafted.
You can activate the Pal you have in hand and view them in the ‘My Friends’ section. Commands are available to direct the creature to attack all enemies, target your foe, or stay out of the fight. When pursuing a strong creature, it’s wise to remove Pal from combat before a lethal strike is delivered.
When forces are unequal, bringing several skilled fighters is wise. If one dies, others can be activated and eventually revived at the base.
How to level up Palov quickly
Pals act independently, even while working on the base. The maximum level for Pal creatures tracks with the player’s level. Each creature has attributes: attack, defense, speed, and maximum health. In the open world, power monuments improve Pal catching ability and creature stats.
Progress requires special resources. Green lights in the world mark Pal statues, and each upgrade needs more statues. For Pal friends, souls are gathered from defeated enemies, bosses, or chests.
Over time, a power monument can be built at the base, but this requires ancient technology points.
What is the aim of the game
The main objective is to defeat the most skilled Palov trainers. Towers on the map mark boss locations, but other special creatures appear as well. They cannot be tamed, but victory yields ancient technology points.
Why are eggs necessary?
Palov eggs scatter through the open world. They require an incubator to hatch. Leaving the egg inside will eventually yield a level one creature.
