Major updates for Genshin Impact comes out regularly, adding content, characters, and even new continents. The 3.0 upgrade was released in August 2022. In this guide we will talk about all the changes in the game, analyze which characters, weapons, artifacts, missions, events, banners, territories, bosses and opponents have been added.
Update 3.0 release date for Genshin Impact
The patch was officially released on August 24, 2022. It was then that a new area became available – Sumeru. The next update should arrive no earlier than six weeks later, meaning there’s plenty of time to explore the region.
Players should be aware that maintenance work is almost always going on before major game upgrades happen. The best part about this is that the developers give 300 source stones as a reward – a paid currency that is very difficult to collect. If you play Genshin Impact occasionally, make sure to return to the game after updates.
Which new territory?
Sumeru is a completely new region, which has been discussed repeatedly by characters in story missions, but was not available before Update 3.0. It is located near the Break. Read our guide to exactly what tasks you need to perform to unlock access.
In Sumeru you will master a new element – Dendro, which reflects the forces of nature. The new territory turned out to be quite large and dense jungle grows on the surface.
To improve the statue of Dendro Archon, players can find special items – Dendrocules. They are scattered all over Sumeru, but it is quite difficult to get to most of them. If earlier anemocules, geocules and electrocules were mainly found in the open world and gamers could easily get to them, now to search for such items you have to complete world tasks and solve all kinds of puzzles.
A special ultrasound stone helps to look for dendrocules. Players can make it themselves at Sumeru Reputation Level 8.
What new banners and characters
As usual, the update is divided into two parts. From August 24, two archer heroes will be available: the five-star Tignari and the four-star Collei. Both characters use Dendro powers.
Tignari fulfills the duties of the head of the Forest Watch and part-time Kollei. You can read more about the hero in our separate guide. Collei is Amber’s friend who has endured many trials.
Dory, a girl with pink hair and Electro powers, should appear in the second part of the update. It is known from leaks that she specializes in character healing, but there are no further details.
In the second part of the update, a banner will appear with Zhong Li, a hero with a spear and Geo powers, as well as Gan Yu, an archer with cryo abilities.
The traveler can also interact with the statue of Dendro Archon and acquire the associated element. With its help, you can create objects on the battlefield that get effects from reactions:
- Hydropower: increasing the range of attacking objects;
- Electrical: increasing the speed of object attacks;
- Firework: causes these objects to explode.
Some new enemies
One of the new bosses is the Feathered Mold. The animal can be found in a mysterious cave and as a reward you will receive valuable resources needed to level up new characters. Read our guide on how to find and defeat the feathered fungus.
The second opponent was Electro Fern. A consciously mutated plant uses electricity and rules the world. It won’t be hard to beat him if you follow the advice of a special guide.
As for ordinary opponents, their number will also increase. In Sumeru you will encounter slimy mushroom tracks and villains. More serious enemies are the Mushroom Raptor and the Gelding Gargoyle. Both monsters can fly, which creates additional problems.
Which new weapon?
In addition to the traditional craft weapons based on recipes, two bows have been added. The first is five star “ayus” perfect for tignari, the second is a four star “Fin” available for free during one of the events.
What new artifacts
Two new sets. The first is called “Memories of the Dark Forest”. Two parts of it increase the Dendro damage bonus by 15%, and all four parts grant the ability – when an enemy takes elemental damage, their resistance to Dendro is reduced by 25% for 8 seconds. The effect can occur even when the attacking hero is not on the battlefield.
The second set is called “Decorative Golden Dream”. Two parts of it increase the elemental mastery by 80 points, and four parts give an effect that manifests after an elemental reaction. 1/2/3 characters of the same element give the artifact bearer x/x/x% to attack, while 1/2/3 heroes of different elements give the bearer x/x/x elemental mastery. The bonus lasts for 8 seconds and can be activated every 8 seconds. It can be summoned even when the wearer is not on the battlefield.
What are the new tasks?
Archon Missions
Update 3.0 has not only prepared a new Archon quest from the third part, but also many other activities. Story quests are, as usual, divided into chapters. The “Through Smoke and Dark Woods” quest gives you access to Sumeru, and “A Hundred Fresh Roses Brings the Morning” introduces you to the new “Thinking” mechanics and makes you feel like a detective.
World Missions
The Encounter in the Forest: Aranyaka Quest unlocks the Vanarana location, as well as access to the Dream Tree, which works as the already well-known Sacred Sakura. The story continues in the quest “Varuna-gata”.
However, this is far from the world’s only task. For lovers of cooking there is “Food is the natural taste of nature”, and for those who do not have enough music – “Nursery of Dreams”. Forest adventures complete the world missions Vimana Agama and Agnihotra Sutra.
The quests are closely linked, so to help the inhabitants of the forest in Sumeru, you must complete them all.
What new dungeons
The update offers four single-use dungeons:
In addition to farm adventures and artifacts from the new set, you can also find two standard dungeons in Sumeru:
- Spire of solitary lighting.
- Tower of ignorance.
What new events
The first part of the update invites you to participate in the big event “Children’s Tale”. It, in turn, is also divided into two parts:
- Wandering in the undergrowth.
- woody metamorphoses.
In the first part, players are presented with four challenges. Three of them are mechanical – you have to deal with a certain number of enemies (Overcoming the Elements), run a short section of the path for a while (Grove Run), fight new bosses (Big Animal Watch) and also be a real photographer (Instant image ).
For each challenge you complete, you will receive Source Stones, Mora, various valuable items and a special currency – Creative Notes and Inspiration Drafts.
creative notes are used to purchase Source Stones and other useful resources in the Event Store.
Inspiration concepts can be exchanged for parts of wooden toys aranar. They are needed to collect four figures and get good rewards.

What a new skin
The ability to change the appearance of your characters appeared in Genshin Impact for quite some time. With each update, the number of costumes only grows. In 3.0 Lisa and Ayaka get outfits.
