In May Netflix started to broadcast the second season of the “Poker Face” series. The episodes are based on an interesting principle – from the start we know who has committed a crime. We can only see how the heroes come to the right conclusion. Moreover, a girl who always feels when she is told a lie. Detectives and anti -detectives
Nowadays, well -considered investigators are much less common than before. Of the more or less worthy projects, the series “Knives Out” and the film adjustment of Agatha Christie’s novels about Erkul Poiro by Kenneth Charles Branagh can notice in the spirit of “Murder in Eastern Express” (Murder on the Orient Express) 2017.
It is not surprising that they try to present it in an unusual form today. For example, the “Poker Face” series acts as an anti -detective – The viewer is immediately informed who committed the murder and how. This approach can hardly be called innovative, because it was also used by the master of Saspensa Alfred Hitchcock in the film “Rope” in 1948. But if there was a tense thriller, then the Netflix show is primarily a comedy.

It is believed that an ordinary person is at least four times a day. The main character of the series called Charlie feels when people lie. When it comes to calculating the criminal, her skills are incredibly useful. Unfortunately, the girl had problems with the Mafia, who now wants to deal with her. Local bandits, such as attack aircraft from Star Wars (Star Wars), cannot get along close by Charlie with close distance. In theory this should be funny, but in reality it changes a real danger in a farce.
Moreover, the ability to distinguish the truth in Charlie selectively works. She easily calculated the liar, even from the video on the smartphone, but at the same time she could not understand that she was not a good friend, but her twin sister. To distinguish one from each other, you do not have to have any special skills, it is enough to be a bit careful. Moreover, the cheaper was able to circl our exposure around the finger when she woven a piece of truth in a false speech.
Is it not too banal
It is probably strange to wait for unexpected turns of the series, which reports the name of the murderer from the very beginning. However, I want an unexpected plot twist or a part that we have not paid attention to. But this does not happen, the screenwriters follow the simplest and most predictable path. If the intrigues still apply at the start of the episode, it will disappear closer to the middle.
In such films and TV programs an important role is played by the detective itself, which conducts a study. Charlie Keil, performed by Natasha Lyonne, is a very specific heroine. This girl is rude, simple and not too smart. For example, it is not the best step to blame the man of murder when he was left with him, since he can decide to get rid of the witness. And the lack of disability sometimes causes uncomfortable scenes – more than once and not two Charlie will advertise loudly, which he wants to drink. In our opinion this is not funny, but simply unpleasant.
So this is a comedy? Then why don’t I laugh
Of course, all inconsistencies and banality can be explained by the fact that we have a light comedy. Her task is to make us laugh at the characters and ridiculous situations. The problem is that what happens is difficult to call funny. In the presentation of the director, a huge fragment of glass, which sticks to the leg and causes blood splashes, must cause a smile. We have nothing against black humor, but he has to surprise and shock, and not show what we already know.
A drop of honey in a barrel
It is worth recognizing that the series has different advantages. Despite the walk-through plot, each episode is a separate detective mini story with its crime, investigation and denouement. Thanks to this, showers managed to reach a variety. Moreover, what happens is filled with a cheerful action, so it looks easy and has no time to get tired. Classic jazz and music by Antonio Vivaldi as a soundtrack can also be attributed to plus points, but they are not always suitable for what is happening on the screen.
A pleasant bonus is the appearance of famous actors. In the first season we saw Edrian Brody, Ron Perlman (Ron Perlman) and Simon Helberg, who played the vastness in the Big Bang Theory theory. In the second, the infamous Dzhanancarlo Esposito was illuminated as a different villain.
