Recently the Polish studio Rebel Wolves shared the new concept arts of her debut project The blood of Dawnwalker. In fact, news about this expected vampire RPG appears regularly, and since the announcement it has become known for many curious details. We have collected the most interesting in this material.
Who are rebel wolves?
Dawnwalker’s blood is developing a studio founded by CD Projekt immigrants. The team is led by Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, director The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. It also contains other important authors of The Witcher: screenwriter Yakub Szamaly, designer of Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz and Art Director of Bartli Gaveli (BartÅ‚omiej Geweras). In total, around 120 people work in rebel wolves.
In an interview, Conrad explained the departure from CD Projekt as follows:
I founded Rebel Wolves because I felt that I wanted to make something unique with my friends. Of course we really love RPG and appreciate everything that has been done earlier. But I think these things, these RPG rules can be expanded and developed. We had crazy ideas. We understood: if we want to realize them, we have to open our own studio. After all, it would be difficult to convince a large company to run the risk of doing something new and non-standard with an unknown franchise. This is really risky, because we apply some solutions that have not been before.
What role Game CD Projekt did you like the most?
Carpathians vampires

The project is to a certain extent the spiritual heiress Blood and wine. Just like the last DLC for De Witcher 3, Dawnwalker’s blood tells the vampire drama as part of a rolling world.
Events take place in the Carpathians in the alternative version of Eastern Europe of the 14th century. Using the consequences of the terrible plague, the vampires decided to get out of the shadow and to seize the power in the fictional kingdom of Sangor. This state combines elements of cultures of real peoples that in the Carpathians inhabit.
The main character called Cohen is a half-man-half-man. So as a result of a failed attraction, he became: because of the work in a silver mine, his body is saturated with silver, which occurs a complete transformation. In the afternoon, Cohen remains a man and at night the superhuman skills of the Bloodsuckers acquire.

Cohen tries to save a family from vampires. In this, the powerful leader of the Bravese monsters, who has been around since the time of the Roman Empire, interfere with him. It was he who was planning to build a despotism of the born night in Sangor. According to his rule isolated vampires the country and created a new religion. According to her, people must worship the terrible gentlemen as the gods in exchange for their healing blood.
Quests on Timer?
Cohen has 30 days and nights to save family members. And yes, this is not just a convention: the player must choose which tasks to give priority, because it is impossible to have time to do everything.
Maybe this is the most interesting and at the same time Fallout. Time is a limited source in the Rebel Wolves project, so that gamers can constantly make difficult decisions: to whom they can help and who are not. In an interview with Gamesradar, Mateush Tomashkevich said that the studio wants to reinforce the tension naturally and give weight every choice.
Moreover, the authors hope to prevent narrative dissonance, present in De Witcher 3. On the one hand, the Plot Geralt attacked as quickly as possible to find Ciri – this was served as a matter of life and death. In practice, however, there was no pressure on the gamer. If you want – play Gwint with every person oncoming traffic, find a frying pan for the old woman, perform contracts in all villages. Tsiri will wait.
Nevertheless, if the concept of limited time seems too stressful, it is important to understand that the timer often has a break. While the hero, for example, simply explores the world and does not fill the mission. Only Quests have the timer and the game clearly reports the gamer every time it happens.
Wanderer during the day

Another unique feature of Dawnwalker’s blood is a different series of skills, depending on the time of the day.
Rebel Wolves designers want players to feel superheroes, but not constantly. So the concept of the protagonist appeared, who is an ordinary person with all the vulnerabilities during the day, and at night it becomes a vampire – stronger, faster and with special skills. The authors claim that such a double nature of the character is a recognizable image in pop culture, which has not yet been announced in games.
By the way, if Gamer suddenly has the desire to play a real monster, then the game will not stop him: all plot NPC can be killed.
Compact world
Mateusz Tomashkevich said that although the Studio RPG wants to release in quality at the level of the third “Witcher”, it is absolutely not worth waiting for a similar amount of content:
Of course our game will not be that great in terms of the amount of content and the duration of the passage. We are a small studio, this is our first project, so we do something compacters. But we strive for the same high quality, perhaps just on a smaller scale.
The authors assess that the passage of the blood of Dawnwalker will take 30-40 hours somewhere, which is actually quite worth.
The open world is inferior to the Witcher 3 card in size respectively, but this avoids empty spaces where nothing happens. According to Tomashkevich, the authors were led by the world of the first in this regard Gothic:
It was an open world, but much less, and its sensations were completely different compared to huge games, where it is impossible to study every corner because of the size, and you are forced to hurry. But when the world is a bit more compact, you explore it calmer and more relaxed. You remember these places, you start navigating better and you feel like a part of the world.
What we don’t know yet are the details of the blood of the Dawnwalker combat system. And also – release dates. Nevertheless, it is known to date that the information is enough to distinguish the potential of the project. That is why we continue to follow him: in the summer the authors promise to show a complete gameplay.
