On the evening of November 6, leading gaming and hardware publications began publishing full reviews of the PlayStation 5 Pro. In short, the players’ fears were confirmed: the console is indeed very powerful, but to see all the improvements you need a large TV and perfect vision.
One of the main complaints about the console was its price of $ 700 (in Russia – 130 thousand rubles). Sony’s most expensive gaming device does not justify such a large investment and will appeal more to people who are not considering a PC and do not want to bother with graphics modes.
Separately, the reviews scolded the poor package without a disk drive and a vertical stand. On the other hand, Sony has equipped the console with a large 2TB drive, which makes life a lot easier for players.
The main advantage of the PS5 Pro is the new GPU with improved ray tracing. Many games that have received a special patch have become much more beautiful. For example, indoors Alan Wake 2 introduced full-fledged ray tracing, and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth has seen a noticeable increase in overall image quality. Eldenring and Dragon’s Dogma 2, which suffered from framerate drops, runs smoother on the new console.
However, on some projects the changes are not so noticeable. According to a Games Radar reviewer: Hogwarts Legacy benefits the least from the PS5 Pro improvements and doesn’t look as impressive as expected.
The Verge and Games Radar noted that the PS5 Pro will appeal most to two categories of people: owners of gaming monitors and those who are used to sitting three feet away from a large TV. “Are you sitting three meters away or further? No, then the PS5 Pro probably isn’t worth $700. Even if you have perfect vision like me. The improved graphics are simply not noticeable enough at this distance. But if you sit closer, the new console can make some games look great.”writes The Verge.
Quotes from other publications:
The PlayStation 5 Pro is an impressive console, with noticeable gains in performance and graphics for games that take advantage of the powerful hardware. But for $700, you should think twice about whether the upgrade is worth the price.
PS5 Pro is a powerful upgrade from the base PS5. It’s the best way to experience the PS5’s vast library of games and the current pinnacle of console gaming. However, the sky-high price of $699 only makes this device attractive to the most dedicated gamers.
The PS5 Pro doesn’t live up to its price everywhere, but it delivers on its promise and improves both the graphics and the frame rate. The $700 price tag is still hard to justify, especially for those who play in the living room with a 50-65 inch TV. Those who use a large screen or monitor will feel the benefits more clearly.
