Many developers add Easter eggs to their games that point us to famous works, specific personalities or even memes. Some of them look quite unusual. In this article we have collected the strangest Easter eggs in our memory.
Meowing after every successful hit in Counter-Strike 2
Counter-Strike 2 is the latest version of Valve’s cult shooter. Despite some innovations, it retains the gameplay of the original game, in which they kill quickly and without the possibility of resurrection during the round. However, you can dilute the harsh atmosphere by making cat meows after each hit on enemies. To do this, you need to enter the command:
- alias SOUNDcat01 “play sounds\ambient\animal\cat_01;”
- alias SOUNDcat02 “play sounds\ambient\animal\cat_02;”
- alias SOUNDcat03 “play sounds\ambient\animal\cat_03;”
After this, all you have to do is “bind” “X” “SOUNDcat01”, where X is any key in the game.

Half-naked men in Hitman: Blood Money
Almost all the jokes that appear in the games in the series Hitman can be classified as black humor. But among them there are also simply strange situations that are difficult to explain from a logical point of view. For example during the ninth mission in Blood Money, entitled ‘Till Death Do Us Part’, is to eliminate the father and groom immediately at the wedding. But if you shoot a special lucky coin during the ceremony, a crowd of men in shorts will run up to you and applaud. Apparently this is how rednecks have fun in the American outback.

Even during the first one A rumor spread among Diablo players that if you click on a cow a certain number of times, you can open a portal to a secret level. In fact, this is a story in the spirit of a cheat code for naked Sonya Blade from the beginning Deadly battle. However, Blizzard’s developers appreciated the joke and played it out in the sequel.

After you complete the final quest in Act 5 Diablo 2, you must return to the villain camp from the start of the game and place the Tome of Town Portal into the Horadric Cube along with Wirt’s Been. In this case, a passage to a new location opens. There you will find dozens of aggressive cows that walk on their hind legs and attack enemies with spears.
Have you ever been afraid of scary Easter eggs?
Mortuary in The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim
During a meeting with Sadness in In Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, the ghosts of all the fighters you’ve stabbed or shot throughout the game stand in your way. There is a similar point Skyrim. Creepy faces in the Game Boy camera interface
Although the Game Boy is a portable console with a black and white screen, a full-fledged camera was released for it in 1998. This allowed you to take photos with a resolution of 128×128 pixels. This feature has been used in some games developed specifically for this camera. However, the idea was not developed further and in 2002 the production of such devices was stopped.

The Game Boy Camera interface has a Run option. When you click on it, scary faces will appear on the console screen and the message Who are you running from? (“Who are you running from?”). Even now, this Easter egg looks ominous and evokes associations with horror films. It’s hard to imagine how scared the kids of the 1990s were. However, such jokes are often found in Nintendo games.
Nightmare sounds, scary face of the main character and mention of the devil in Sonic CD
In the 1990s, the Sega Mega Drive was considered a console for a more mature audience than the NES or SNES. However, the series Sonic targeted players of all ages, including children. It was all the more surprising to see Sonic CD Easter egg that evokes fear. To do this, you need to perform a sound check and enter the combination FM #46, PCM #46. 12, DA no. 25. After this we saw the main character with a terrible grimace and heard ominous music. In addition, in the American version of the game the word “majin” sounded, which is translated from Japanese as “devil”. In fact, this is just a mispronunciation of the developer Masato Nishimura’s name. However, this did not stop fans from fan theories – they interpreted the mention of Lucifer in their own way. Interestingly enough, the mistake made the initially creepy Easter egg even more sinister.

Kraken in Assassin’s Creed 2
From Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, the developers began to rely on mythology – they invited the main character to fight the Minotaur, Cyclops and Gorgon Medusa. However, in the first parts of the series, Ubisoft adhered to historical reality. That’s why meeting the Kraken in the canals of Venice was really unexpected.

IN In Assassin’s Creed 2, while visiting the Visitazione stash after killing the escaping guard, you will see a door with a skull emblem. You have to open it and then pull the handle. At the same spot, Ezio begins to take a closer look at the water. If you do nothing for about thirty seconds, the Kraken will float to the surface. However, he poses no danger to the main character.
Sounds in the main menu while the original Xbox is running
Xbox is Microsoft’s first console, which went on sale 23 years ago. If you turn it on and leave it in standby mode, it starts making strange noises after a while. Mysterious whispers are combined with scary music and chants straight out of horror films.

Concert of a rock band in the first Gothic
At the beginning of the second chapter you can attend a performance by the folk group In Extremo in the Oude Kamp. To be honest, the modern concert doesn’t fit well with the fantasy style of the game. But the music is just great. Note that it was this band that the soundtrack was recorded for “Gothic”. It is not yet known whether a similar show will appear in the future remake.

Note that in the Russian version of Gothic from 1C there was no performance by a rock band. And in the original German edition and localization of Russobit-M it was fully present.
John Romero’s head in Doom 2
This Easter egg is famous among fans Doom, but if you consider that The second part of the series is 30 years old, many may not know about it. To see it, in the last level of the game, during the battle with the Icon of Sin, you will need to enter a cheat code that will allow you to pass through walls. This way you can reach the secret part of the level, where John Romero’s severed head is located. If you shoot her, the level is considered completed.

John Romero – level designer and tester of all id Software games before the first Including earthquake. The idea to place the man’s head came from his colleagues. So they wanted to make fun of the programmer. And they did – John was just shocked. Later, it was he who suggested leaving the Easter egg in the final version of Doom 2. We have dedicated a separate article to Romero’s biography.
