Last fall, fans of battles with military vehicles received a new and independent project “World of Tanks”. It seems that the Russified name hides an already well-known game, but in fact there are differences, and they are very important. Fans quickly discovered changes in mechanics and technology. We decided not to step aside and independently analyzed the European and Russian versions to find the differences between them. In this review we look at innovations, events, maps and, in fact, technology. Today we will discuss why you should choose “World of Tanks” if you decide to plunge into the world of combat on combat vehicles.

The years pass. Console generations change. Players’ tastes are becoming increasingly specific. Online projects change genres like gloves, but at the same time die quite quickly – users need new emotions and an incentive to continue logging into one or another game. “Tanks” is one of the few projects that in 13 years not only has not lost its former greatness, but, on the contrary, has become stronger, acquired a large-scale fan base and will not lose ground.

Over the years of its existence on the market, “Tanks” has undergone many changes, which affected not only the graphics, but also the gameplay itself. Each large-scale update motivates fans to return to the ranks of the crew and throw grenades at their opponents. The most significant and high-profile change took place last year, when an independent project for the Russian-speaking audience, ‘World of Tanks’, emerged from the well-known game. At first it seemed that the difference would only be in the location of the servers and monetization, but a year later we can safely say that both projects took different paths.

A year and a half later, after all the updates and seasonal events, it became clear to us that the developers of World of Tanks are mainly trying to please loyal fans and veterans with thousands of hours of play, and not just newcomers. The threshold for participation in tank battles is quite high, and not everyone can hold out until the discovery of good equipment. Any drastic change in the mechanics or approach of collection tanks could seriously undermine fan confidence, which in turn will lead to a decline in online participation. “World of Tanks” does not try to change the basics of the game to differentiate itself from its brother, but offers focused and competent solutions that allow you to look at your favorite genre from a different angle.

“World of Tanks” is a multiplayer tank simulator with a focus on team esports. The basic rules have remained unchanged: two teams using military equipment enter into a huge battle, which has its own rules and conditions. Then everything is classic: you must destroy all enemy players or capture their base. Non-standard modes with fun conditions often appear during seasonal events, as well as as part of collaborations with other media franchises.

If you have never tried yourself as a driver, but have been planning to drive military equipment for a long time, then now, during the winter holidays, is the time to download and try. Yes, we said above that World of Tanks is not the easiest game for beginners, but this only concerns communication, tactics and understanding of projectile ballistics. This game is not a tank battle simulator; you don’t need to check every parameter of a combat vehicle. The controls are tied to the usual WASD layout, so the tank looks like a car from any arcade race. The physics of the vehicles is quite realistic and the wide variety makes it easy to choose your own car that suits all your needs.

Driving a tank is quite easy, but shooting guns is a little more difficult. Firstly, shooting is divided into two types: normal and aimed. In the first case, you simply aim at the enemy and shoot. Maybe the stars will align and the game will count the hit. In the second, you perform targeted fire. Aim at the vulnerable part of the tank, wait until the crosshairs line up with the dot, and then fire.

Secondly, in World of Tanks it is important to take into account the position, the distance to the target and the shelters that will save your tank from enemy fire. More experienced players prefer positional battles so that they don’t rush headlong into the heat of battle. It is much more profitable to hide in the bushes and fire volleys at the enemy than to die at the beginning of the match from a stray grenade. If you don’t like being in cover, you can always take a lighter tank, which perfectly illuminates enemy positions and maneuvers far past flying missiles.

And thirdly, it is important that players know the characteristics of the enemy’s armor in order to hit vulnerable spots. Due to the large equipment park, it is not easy to understand all the intricacies immediately, so do not hesitate to ask advice from experienced “tankers”. Or you can make an adjustment that highlights the weaknesses of a particular technique. By the way, this mod has been officially approved by the developers.

Local training does not cover all the complexities of combat. You can beat the bots the first time in the early matches, but then you’re thrown into the middle of it all, where your chances of survival aren’t the greatest. In addition to the gameplay, you will need to understand classes, types, upgrade branches, attributes, grenades, crew, team battles, tactical actions and features of survival in combat. The game is very layered, recommended for hardcore fans.

“World of Tanks” is appreciated by fans not only for its versatile gameplay, but also for the ability to collect equipment. The progression system is intelligently distributed across the branches of tank leveling, which perfectly motivates people to return to the game to earn in-game currency. And there’s a lot of technology involved. It will take a lot of time to open just one branch of a particular series.

Each branch of a given vehicle model has 10 levels. The higher it is, the better the characteristics of the new car. Of course, everyone wants to compete in a “gimmick” tank from the beginning, but without donation you will have to master each level. The economy in World of Tanks is complicated, so before you start collecting, you need to understand its intricacies. Fortunately, in battle you often encounter vehicles of the same level or a level higher or lower, so there is always a chance of a fair victory.

Each country has its own set of tanks with unique features, designs and features. Each type of vehicle is responsible for a specific role in battle. Light tanks expose enemies and distract attention. The anti-tank installation mows down anyone who thinks they are immortal. Heavy equipment cannot be captured by conventional shells, so it covers its allies with its thick armor. The artillery drives the tankers out of the bushes and prevents the campers from getting into an advantageous position.

A new type of equipment has also appeared: flamethrower tanks. This is a close-combat support technique: the Soviet XT-130 and Object 156 O. Fire allows you to hit targets behind small obstacles and shoot at close range. In this case, the damage does not depend on the enemy’s armor indicator. Are you unable to photograph at great distances? Get close to the heavyweights and burn them to the ground!

After you open one branch, you’ll probably want to open the next. In addition to unique properties, the tanks are distinguished by their unique design. Each model has hundreds of small details on the bodywork. Some tanks have unique mechanisms that you won’t find in other industries and countries. World of Tanks features unique equipment not found in its sister project. Collectors should pay attention to this feature.

Any player who has gone through a difficult path from a beginner to an experienced tanker cannot simply stop collecting equipment. Moreover, after the months of the first difficult battles, there is a desire to win back with a more powerful tank and accumulated experience.

With every new update, World of Tanks becomes more and more different from its western counterpart. The changes concern not only experimental technology and functions of the server part, but also events, events and monetization methods. The developers have changed the PvE mode “Test Range”. Bots have become more aggressive and the number of rewards has increased many times over. You can ride vehicles of any level and the map “Stalingrad” has also been added.

New equipment will appear: the Soviet tank destroyer X with the mechanics to change the tilt of the hull in siege mode, the American medium tank Conv. Medium Tank T3E2, as well as the Czechoslovakian Tier 4 tank Tatra T-III. For beginners, the developers have added 8 maps: Minsk, Live Oaks, Highway, Redshire, Pearl River, Old Harbor, Quiet Coast, Karelia. Additionally, premium tanks can now be purchased for gold coins.

Very soon World of Tanks will organize a New Year’s event with skate modes and snowball fights on military equipment. The hangar will be renovated before New Year’s Eve and will also receive a Tatra T-3. Players will have the opportunity to decorate the Christmas tree, enhancing their own festive spirit. Finally, the competitive Onslaught mode is updated, also with a winter theme.

But the main feature of World of Tanks is its Russian-language servers. It is easier to negotiate, collaborate and communicate in your native language. This is very important for competitive gaming, where success in battle often depends on well-coordinated teamwork.

Most clans remained on Russian-language servers. For beginners, this is very important, because it will be easier to join the community and quickly get used to the gameplay. Veterans will always talk about the intricacies of the game, advise the best technique for the first battles and generally help with the build-up.

It seems like “World of Tanks” will never get old; the game easily attracts new players with its game design, extensive vehicle fleet, interesting events, unique modes and communication with combat vehicle fans. The developers promise even bigger updates and all kinds of interesting things in the future.
