A problem known to all fans of Bethesda games is inventory management and a limit on the maximum carrying weight. “Overload” is not bypassed and star field. There are an incredibly large number of items in the game, and in order to comfortably get all possible resources, treasures and equipment, you will have to make an effort. In this guide we describe all the effective ways that will help you increase your load capacity.
Starfield Guides
How can I increase the carrying capacity and carry more items in Starfield?
In addition to the increased oxygen consumption when overloaded, you get another unpleasant effect – the game forbids you to move quickly. Given the size of the game and how far you can get from your ship, overloading is a real problem for space explorers.
Skills
The simplest solution is to add a skill point to the skill “Weightlifting” (weightlifting). It increases the maximum carrying weight by 10/25/50/100 kilograms depending on the rank. To unlock new levels of the skill, you must complete the tests: “Run 1000/2500/5000 meters with a load of at least 75% of the maximum load.”

Equipment
Another way is to find equipment with a prefix that increases the maximum carrying weight. For example, you can find a backpack that gives +20 kg to the maximum weight. A backpack with a similar feature can be found in the screenshot below.

Drinks and other consumables
Drinking has a nice effect in the game; it also increases your carrying capacity. Drinking alcoholic beverages such as whiskey or certain cocktails temporarily increases your capacity. Not a bad way to transport items to the ship in minutes or to remove the ‘Cannot fast travel if overloaded’ sign. Keep in mind that alcohol intoxication also increases stamina (oxygen) consumption. Some other items in the game have a similar effect.

Companions
Finally, the most classic trick that allows you to carry more stuff is using companions. Just start a dialogue with an ally and ask them to exchange items. Then load it up with all the garbage and resources you’ve managed to get your hands on, and proceed to “vacuum” the location. Allies’ carrying capacity is limited and is displayed in the same place as your backpack weight. You can switch between the player’s and his companions’ inventories by pressing the key Q.

Using the same button, you have the right to throw excess items into the ship’s cargo hold. While on the spaceship, open your inventory and click Q – this will activate the mode for moving items between your inventory and the cache on the ship. Using “LKM” or “PKM” start moving items to the ship’s hold. It doesn’t matter where you are on the ship.
How do you increase the cargo capacity and cargo space (hold) of your ship in Starfield?
Initially, your ship can only hold 450 kilograms of stuff. There are two ways to increase this indicator: by throwing a skill point into the skill “Charge Capacity” (Payloads) or by purchasing (upgrading) ship elements from the Cargo category in the shipbuilding menu.
The payload increases the ship’s payload by 10/20/30/40%. To unlock this skill, you need to invest four skill points in the tech branch. You can unlock new levels of the skill by making 10/25/50 jumps to other systems with a ship’s hold load of at least 75% of the maximum load.

Combined with ship upgrades, this is a truly amazing ability that makes each cargo module 1.5 times more efficient at maximum rank.
To purchase additional cargo modules, find a ship service engineer, select the second option in the dialog (“I’d like to view and customize my ships”), then press “B” to go to the ship designer. Now click “G” to add a new module.
The modules we need are in the “Cargo” tab. Each module increases the ship’s carrying capacity (“Cargo”) and somewhat the ship’s strength (“Hull”), but reduces mobility and jump range due to significant weight.

That’s why you need to keep an eye on the overall performance of the starship and don’t forget to install or upgrade engines and reactors to keep the ship maneuverable.
The option with new ship modules is the most expensive, but it allows you to turn the ship into a real flying warehouse for your precious resources, minerals and equipment.
