In our reviews, we repeatedly encountered MSI gaming accessories, including mice from the Clutch series. This time we look at two devices at the same time: the Clutch GM31 Lightweight mouse and the Clutch GM31 Lightweight Wireless variant.

And while they have an almost identical name, they differ in terms of packaging, kit, weight, sensor and details on the back of the case. Let’s take a closer look at that.

With the delivery of the wired version, you will only find instructions and a warranty card in addition to the mouse itself. The wireless version also comes with a docking station, USB transmitter and cable.

The difference in weight is not so great and is due to the presence of a battery in the wireless version and a magnet for easy installation on the docking station. So, the classic wired version weighs only 58 g (excluding cable), and wireless – 73 g.

The wired version has a PixArt PAW 3360 optical sensor with a sensitivity of up to 12000 DPI. The wireless version with the PixArt PAW 3311 optical sensor has the same sensitivity.

Both mice have 6 buttons and an RGB backlit MSI logo on the top. The top five buttons can be reprogrammed to your liking via the MSI Center app.

The mice use OMRON switches with a claimed lifespan of up to 60 million clicks. The sound of pressing all the buttons is pleasant and quiet.

At the back are identical Teflon feet with a unidirectional surface structure. The wireless version has a slightly larger center leg around the sensor.

You will also find a button on both versions to switch the DPI sensitivity and a switch for the wireless option.

Note that Clutch GM31 Lightweight Wireless also works with the included two-meter MSI FriXionFree cable, which does not create additional friction on the mat and does not interfere with use. The cable is connected to a convenient slot in the middle and does not play. The wired version uses exactly the same cord.

If you want to take the mouse with you on the go, you can insert a USB receiver into the same slot in the middle.

An interesting detail: pink connectors

The Clutch GM31 Lightweight Wireless installs on a docking station with rubber feet, which allows it to stay in one place. The station is convenient to use, the mouse is easy to attach to the charger.

The manufacturer notes that a full charge lasts 110 hours of use. During 5 days of work, we managed to discharge the mouse by 70%. The device charges quickly: 10 minutes on the docking station is enough for up to 7 hours of use.

Software

Use the MSI Center application to configure the mice. The user is given the option to configure a profile for different scenarios, in which you can set the sensor sensitivity, brightness and backlight mode. Here you can also reassign the actions of the buttons or record a macro on them.

Three profiles can be stored in the built-in memory of devices.

User experience

We spent several sessions in competitive shooting games alternating between the Clutch GM31 Lightweight and the Clutch GM31 Lightweight Wireless.

We could not detect differences in the operation of the PAW 3360 and 3311 sensors, nor disrupt the sensor with a sharp movement. Both options performed extremely well in dynamic games and day-to-day work.

Please note: the mice are made in a compact and ergonomic housing that fits well in a small hand. If you are the owner of a large brush, these devices will seem small to you – you will have to adjust your grip.

Results and prices

Both MSI GM31 Lightweight and MSI GM31 Lightweight Wireless are mice with combat sensors and durable switches for long gaming sessions.
