After waking up on the beach after the crash of the Nautiloid, your journey through Faerûn begins. Soon you come across the Overgrown Ruins and a group of bandits who live there. You can try to convince them to leave this place through intimidation or trickery, but be careful – if you fail the test, you will have to fight and the opponents are strong enough for the first level.
You can head west from the Overgrown Ruins and save Laezelle, then find Astarion to assemble a full-fledged team of four. After that, go to the overgrown ruins and try to bargain with the bandits. By defeating them (or chasing them away), you can freely explore the surface of the ruins. Be warned: a second squad awaits you inside.
Travel to the northern part of the ruins, go down to the wooden door and press Alt. To the right of the door you will see a shovel marked. Take it with LMB. Finished! Now you can use it for its intended purpose.
You will also encounter a shovel if you don’t explore the Overgrown Ruins, but go around them from the west. After exploring the island from the illithid ship and meeting Astarion, head north. There you may find your first mound and a shovel nearby. You can see an example path in the screenshot below.

Sometimes, while exploring Faerûn, you suddenly make a sighting roll. If successful, a small hill will appear in front of the squad. If you interact with him without a spade, you will see the message “Unable to use action”.
It is necessary that one of the characters has a shovel in the inventory. If suddenly there were no tools in the inventory, it doesn’t matter. Open the map on “M”, double click on “LMB” on the place where the treasure was found, and name the mark. Now you can return here if you have a shovel.
Now that you’ve found the tool, go to the hill and click on “LMB”. The character starts digging and a chest appears under the ground. After the animation ends, you can open it and view its contents. If your team lacks perception, then take a closer look at Astarion – his parameter is quite high.
And remember – in your adventure you will encounter many shovels, but you will only remember the very first one.
