Where can you find Mr. Ditch (The Hermit) in Jagged Alliance 3
You will find this mercenary during the quest “The Hermit”. Access to the task is opened after talking to the butler of the destroyed house in sector G8. The location is marked on the map.
Unfortunately, the man does not know where the owner of the mansion is. That’s why you don’t get exact coordinates. You will find Meneer Sloot in the Grote Woud, square L12.
Be careful, there are many minefields on the territory. It is recommended to have an explosives specialist on the team. When you get to the indicated point, you will see that the Hermit was surrounded by legionaries. They must be killed before they deal a mortal wound to Mr. Ditch. Then talk to the man.
Then you need to return to the mansion and talk to the butler. It remains to go again to the place where the hermit hid in order to receive a reward.
Where to find Bastien in Jagged Alliance 3
You will meet this character for the first time at the beginning of the game. You can find him on the beach in sector I1.
It is important to talk to him before attacking the fortress. During a conversation with him, three scenarios are possible:
- Kill Bastien. This is how you get rid of one of the defenders of the fortress in advance. You also get 150 experience points and 10 Ernie’s loyalty points. However, Pierre will not like your decision, which may prevent you from recruiting him into your team.
- Release Bastien. In this case, the possibility of meeting the man later opens.
- Demand ransom. If you have a high wisdom parameter, you can demand diamonds from Bastien. He will give you 3 pieces. With this option you can also cross with a man again. The best alignment of events at this stage.
If you let Bastien go and then storm the fortress, he will participate in the defense, that is, fight against you. However, if you visit the mercenary base in square H3 first, you can talk to the mercenary again. We marked the exact location on the map.
This conversation also has several options to resolve the conflict:
- Kill Bastien. You will not only have to deal with the mercenaries themselves, but also with his people. You gain 150 experience points, Ernie’s loyalty is increased by 15 points, and the fortress loses a valuable defender. However, as a result, Pierre will turn against you and will not want to join your team.
- Pay bastien. Not the best option. You will receive 150 experience points, but you will lose $ 1000. And the man will still defend the fortress. And after his death, you can’t recruit Pierre.
- Trick Bastien. If you have a fox on your team, you can outsmart that man. You gain 300 experience points and deprive the fortress of a valuable defender.
- Convince Bastien to raise his hands. You receive 150 experience points and 5 Ernie’s loyalty points. And the last time you convinced a man to pay the ransom, you get $115 and diamonds. In addition, it is possible to pick up MP-40, AK-47 and cartridges for them from the ground. In this scenario, Bastien will refuse to take part in the battle for the fortress.
Where to find Herman from Jagged Alliance 3
After capturing Ernie for the second time, go to Martha in the first village.
Talk to the girl. She will say that Herman is missing. You can find it in square I3.
Remark: you must have an explosives specialist on your team. Without it, it will be difficult to overcome the minefield. It is advisable not to go directly to the target, but to bypass the area from the west side. Hide your squad behind a wall and send an explosives specialist ahead. He will clear the area until he approaches the soldiers. After a dialogue with them, a battle will begin. Retreat into the wall and shoot the enemy fighters.
You can then approach Herman.
As before, the explosives specialist must go ahead. When you get to the man, disarm the mine he’s on and talk to him. The man admits guilt but asks to keep it a secret.
Return to Erny. You have the choice of two options:
- It’s none of our business. In this case, Luke will be hanged, you will receive 10 Ernie’s loyalty points and a generous reward from Herman. But Pierre doesn’t want to join your team.
- It was Herman! This option opens the next selection.
Once you’ve reported who actually killed the villager, you can decide what to do with the criminal:
- Herman deserved the gallows. You will receive 20 Ernie Loyalty Points.
- Don’t kill Herman. In addition to Ernie’s 5 loyalty points, you receive a small reward from the killer.
Where to find Smiley and how to recruit him in Jagged Alliance 3
Smiley has high strength and accuracy, but low agility. Because of this, it’s hard to call him a useful fighter. In addition, to save this mercenary, you have to go through a difficult mission, which includes several difficult firefights. In the meantime, if you still want to get Smiley on your team, follow our instructions.
The first thing to do is talk to Maman about Molly’s kidnapping. You can find her on square D7, in the slums of Pantagruel.
Examine the bath house, the top floor and the roof. Then you are advised to talk to the priest in La Bue. Tell him you know where Smiley is hiding. After that you can talk to him in the secret room. Mercenaries will attack you. Kill them. To save a priest, you must have a high level of leadership.
Smiley then wants to meet personally at Blauber’s house. If you’ve already been to his mansion and completed the quest to save Luigi, then the gunfight will be a bit easier. In any case, it is better to take two squads with you and act as competently as possible. The mansion is located on square I9.
First, kill the enemies who shoot at Smiley. After the battle is over, he will join your team.
Where to find and how to recruit Jacques Boin (Flayer) in Jagged Alliance 3
Flayer is a good sniper who doesn’t need a weekly paycheck. Granted, to recruit him, you must have a fighter with a Wisdom Score of 90 or higher on your team. If you don’t have a soldier like that, hire Barry for a week.
Go to the poacher’s camp, which is located on square C5.
Gilbert, nicknamed the Jackal, will ask you to kill the Flayer. But you cannot fulfill the order, but draw a man to your side. To find it, you need to examine three corpses.
First go to square C6.
Here you need to find and examine the body of a poacher. Focus on the deer antlers that will be on his head. Hyenas roam nearby, but dealing with them will not be difficult.
Then go to sector B4.
We still have to find and study two dead people with deer antlers. Once all three corpses have been examined, the Flayer will appear by itself.
Ask him to stop and then offering to hunt you. Only in this case will he join your team.
Where to find Pierre and how to recruit in Jagged Alliance 3
You will learn about Pierre when you visit the village of Ernie. Luke will ask you not to kill him. But the decision, as usual, is yours.
For Pierre to be part of your team, you must meet a number of conditions:

During the attack on the fortress, Pierre will surrender as soon as you get close. After that, it’s important to let it go. You receive diamonds from Luke and 10 Ernie’s loyalty points. You will meet Pierre himself in the future. When you have fulfilled all the conditions, you can recruit a fighter.
If you want, you can execute Pierre. But all you get in this scenario is 30 Ernie’s Loyalty Points. There will be no reward from Luke and you will lose the chance to get a valuable soldier for your team.
