Developers from the indie studio Archangel stated that they were not stealing any assets, but were buying from the Epic Games store.
Today, the team received an official comment from Epic Games. It turned out that the company cannot guarantee the authenticity of the assets.
In accordance with the rules of the market, each seller warrants to Epic Games that they have the proper rights to download their content. However, as with any store hosting third-party content, Epic Games cannot independently verify such rights and makes no warranties to purchasers of content.
The developers stated that they will replace non-original assets in a few days. The team hopes this case will be educational not only for them, but for other indie studios as well.
