Finding one of the best armor sets in God of War: Ragnarok is pretty easy. However, to get the Steinbjorn armor you need to defeat four trolls to collect Slumber Stones. This material is needed for crafting. Below we describe the location of all items and tell you how to get the most out of the set.
How to prepare for the quest for secret armor
Before you go looking, here’s a quick list of everything you need to prepare. There may be minor plot spoilers in the text, so if you don’t want to spoil your experience, wait until you’ve completed the Forging Destiny story mission.
You must do the following before you can get the Steinbjorn armor in God of War Ragnarok:
- Get full access to free movement around the Lake of Nine area in Midgard;
- To get Spear Draupnir;
- To get “key”which Freya gives you in the story to unlock the Forbidden Sands area in Alfheim;
- Complete the “Song of the Sands” request in Forbidden Sands.
The order does not matter, but it is worth knowing in advance what is needed so as not to waste time.
Where to find the relic “Mystical Legacy”
After you complete Chapter 10 “Forge of Your Own Destiny” and obtain the new path-opening item, the Mystical Heirloom relic will be the first target. You can find her in Lake of Nine, southwest of Tyr’s Temple. Walk along the great ice wall.
Find a crevice in the ice that represents a destructible surface. Throw a spear and blow up the ice block to open a path to a small crevice. Look around and you’ll find a dwarf’s body next to a mysterious relic and a scroll of knowledge.
How to use the Mystic Legacy Relic
Unlike other relics found in God of War Ragnarok, the description of the Mystic Legacy immediately warns against it “something that seems important, but has no practical significance in battle”. When used, Kratos will smack the device on his wrist with no effect, and her short 16-second cooldown allows her to do this quite often.
Note that the information on the relic also states that it “awakens something slumbering in the darkest depths of the soul”. You may have noticed that a scroll of lore found nearby mentions that you bought an heirloom for a certain dwarf.

In several worlds of Midgard you can find huge statues of trolls. Most of them are next to the knowledge posts. These markings actually describe the troll and mention that he has been locked up and “put to sleep”.
You can use the Mystic Legacy to wake up these trolls and fight them. If you defeat similar monsters, you also earn money sleepy stones – a unique resource that can only be disabled by these enemies. With their help, you can craft Steinbjorn’s armor in any Dwarven Forge.
How to find troll statues and get Sleepy Stones
Below you will find the location of all trolls you can awaken using “Mystical Legacy”. You can beat them in any order. If you’ve played God of War 2018, then the battles will be familiar to you. Set up and activate the relic, once you’re in the right place (default the gamepad buttons L1 + Circle) to wake up the troll statue.
1 – Blodgr Steinn
- Place: Abandoned outpost, Midgard.
The closest troll to where you’ll find the relic is in the Forsaken Outpost area. Just head west along the edge of Lake of Nine to reach the outpost. You will find a giant troll statue. In battle, use swords or a spear.
2 – Bjarg Stormr
- Place: Forbidden Sands, Alfheim.
This troll can be found in the northwest of the Forbidden Sands of Alfheim, but can only be reached after completing the Song of the Sands quest. If all the conditions are met, go to this place and then go to the west corner.
The desired position is to the left of the center of the area, just behind the wreck. Grab the platform above to find the statue. The troll is surrounded on all sides by elven bodies. In battle, use an ax or a spear.
3 – Golrab of the Ashes and 4 – Golrab of the Prince
- Place: Garden of Noatun, Vanaheim.
Not one, but two slumbering trolls await you in Noatun’s garden. Here you can complete a request from the ghost to clear the area of poisonous clouds, which will make the fight much easier.
Fighting with two trolls will be quite difficult, as one is icy and the other is fire. You will have to use the correct weapon (of the opposite element) for each enemy. You can also use a spear.
Steinbjorn Armor features
It remains only to go to the blacksmith shop and craft three items that are included in the set. Two items increase stun damage by 25% and three items increase damage by 50%.
Steinbjorn’s breastplate

How To Wear Steinbjorn Armor – Tips For The Best Treatment
Bloodthirsty Retribution is by far the most interesting skill of the whole set. Theoretically, Stunning Retribution I could be useful, but since the main skill focuses on restoring health, we’re going to make the most of it.
For more effective treatment, we will replace 2 items from the set and leave alone bib. We will also add Belt of raven tears and Bracers from Raven Tears, which can be obtained by hunting Odin’s Ravens. These items give the skill “Healing Efficiency”, increasing the amount of health gained from stones, rage, and equipment. This ability also applies to runic attacks.
Ideally, you should choose attacks that can deal damage in a few seconds so that healing continues while Bloodthirsty Retribution is active. If you still need to restore health in the process, skip another hit and continue the combo. Remember, basic attacks are fine, but you’ll get better healing from them fury or attack runes.

Here are some runic attack tips for each weapon that work really well with this build:
- Wrath of the Frost Ancient: light rune attack for ax – creates an ice beam that freezes enemies on contact;
- Fog of Helheim: heavy rune attack for ax – creates an area attack that inflicts continuous cold for several seconds;
- Fog of Fimbulwinter: heavy rune attack for ax – creates an icy wave that deals cold damage to enemies in front of you;
- Flames of Fear: Light rune attack for swords – creates a fiery geyser for you;
- Atlas Volcano (Atlas Eruption): heavy rune attack for swords – works similarly to the “Flame of Pain” move, but focuses more on melee attacks;
- Artillery of the Ancients: heavy rune spear attack – causes a rain of spears on the area in front of you.
Upgrade runic attacks to increase their duration, area of effect, or both.
