In a recent interview, George RR Martin admitted that he never played Elden Ring, for which he worked on the script. First of all, remember that the writer is known for the series of novels “A Song of Ice and Fire”, on which the series “Game of Thrones” and “House of the Dragon” are based.
George RR MartinI haven’t played it because people seem to really need The Winds of Winter (it’s about three-quarters complete). Unfortunately, I have a completely addictive personality. I played video games a long time ago. It was Railroad Tycoon, Master of Orion and Homeworld, and I was really drawn to it. Weeks, months, and I sit there in my red flannel robe, just saying, “One more game, one more game.” I can’t, I have to endure it, otherwise it will destroy me.
He then went deeper into the subject of video games, with an emphasis on Elden Ring.
Video games, which I knew nothing about, actually take as much time as big movies, if not more. FromSoftware has made it clear that Elden Ring will be set in “the present”. They wanted me to write about what happened 5,000 years ago before it completely destroyed the world, so the present was really confusing. I went back and wrote the story of what happened 5,000 years before the current events in the game, who all those characters were, why they killed each other and what powers they had. Elden Ring is the most beautiful game I’ve ever seen. It’s really awesome and amazingly detailed and the people who play it love it and I’m really happy to be a part of it.
