When selecting a wardrobe for a bedroom, the starting point should be not only the overall interior style but also the room’s size and, most importantly, a clear plan for what will be stored inside. This is the insight shared by Hoff designer Svetlana Kosareva during a discussion with socialbites.ca.
In smaller bedrooms, models with sliding doors are recommended because they save space during opening. For larger rooms, wardrobes with hinged doors work well. And it is worth remembering that a wardrobe’s capacity depends not just on its external dimensions but also on how well the contents are organized. A large wardrobe does not automatically guarantee ample storage space; the key lies in calculating the number of shelves, drawers, and the length of the hanging rod with care, Kosareva notes.
The designer also points out that finding a ready-made wardrobe that perfectly matches the room’s dimensions and the size and type of items to be stored can be challenging. He suggests considering modular storage systems as a flexible alternative.
Modular systems are assembled from preformed elements according to the designer’s approach. One can choose the cabinet color, various facade options, door types (hinged or sectional), and handle designs, while also assembling the configuration to suit personal needs. The internal layout can be adjusted to fit changing storage requirements, Kosareva explains.
Svetlana Kosareva emphasizes that updating interior elements in modular systems is straightforward if desired.
“If the goal is to refresh the overall interior style, there is no need to buy a new wardrobe. Simply swap out facades and handles attached to the main body. When choosing new handles, consider the mounting hole locations from the previous fittings so the changes fit cleanly”, he adds.
The designer also recommends opting for facades with fashionable milling options and doors that feature a matte, velvety soft-touch coating in trendy beige and olive tones. Such finishes integrate seamlessly into modern, restrained interiors and can adapt to different design moods depending on color, texture, and the chosen milling pattern.
For example, a wardrobe with a dark anthracite body and vertically milled oak-look fronts suits a loft-style bedroom. Beige doors with a soft-touch finish complement warm minimalism, while a combination of wooden cabinets with white fronts appeals to fans of Scandi aesthetics, according to Kosareva.
Attention should also be given to hardware details. If handles are easy to replace, then there is no need to compromise on fasteners and closers. High-quality, reliable components are essential, ensuring doors open smoothly and quietly and drawers glide in and out with ease, Kosareva concludes.
In a related note, many residents in Moscow have shown interest in updating apartment interiors using developer finishes, reflecting a broader trend toward practical yet stylish storage solutions in contemporary homes .
