TVE has tapped one of its own to serve as Spain’s spokesperson for the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest, with Ruth Lorenzo taking on the role for the final moments of the competition organized by the EBU. The professional jury from Spain will be responsible for delivering the country’s votes in what promises to be a precise and authoritative scoring moment during the show.
In a strategic move, the singer who now hosts the program Cover Night returns to the Eurovision stage in a way that flags Spain in a new light, replacing Nieves Álvarez, who has held the position since 2017. This shift marks RTVE’s willingness to mix on screen talent with a former national competitor and aligns the vote presentation with a familiar face from Spanish broadcasting.
RTVE’s decision also breaks with tradition by appointing a former Spain representative as the official spokesperson for the country in Eurovision. Previously the role had leaned on presenters and journalists from the network’s live shows. Lorenzo fits the bill on two fronts: she is a proven presenter and she is a familiar face from La 1 as the head of a new talent initiative, bringing a blend of performance pedigree and broadcaster credence to the moment.
Years after Ruth Lorenzo made a splash in the British edition of Factor X, her popularity surged at home in Spain when she represented the nation at Eurovision 2014. Her entry Dancing in the Rain finished ninth, earning 74 points with Denmark while Albania awarded 12 points, a memory that many fans associate with that iconic night and its energy.
Following her Eurovision journey, Lorenzo went on to win the fourth season of Tu cara me suena and also served periodically as a juror. She later hosted the program See How You Sing, aired on Antena 3, and participated in MasterChef Celebrity 7. These credits preceded her debut as the Cover Night presenter on TVE’s La 1, signaling a seamless transition from performer to trusted television host and public face of Spain’s Eurovision presentation.
Musically, Lorenzo has built a substantial body of work, releasing two studio albums, four EPs, and fifteen singles. In the near future, she will release La Reina, an EP featuring four new songs that mark a fresh chapter in her recording career, signaling evolution and creative momentum for the artist.
