Mediaset has charted a bold move by reorganizing its sports information coverage under a new brand identity, signaling a move toward an all-encompassing platform for sports news. Although the communications group had signaled a launch at Telecinco for last Monday, plans shifted and the rollout did not occur as initially hoped. In subsequent interviews, Manu Carreño disclosed the final release date, clarifying when the new format would go live and how it would reshape the network’s sports storytelling.
Reports from El Desmarque during the weekend were already hinting at a broader relaunch strategy that involves Telecinco and Cuatro broadcasting sports content in the early hours and daytime hours as part of a unified sports program. The plan is to blend the group’s various sports offerings into a single, continuous information stream that spans traditional television and digital platforms. This marks a shift away from individual program lines toward a cohesive, cross-channel sports narrative that aligns with the company’s broader digital aspirations and audience engagement goals.
Cuatro will host the new sports program starting Saturday, August 26, with Joseba Larranaga leading two daily time slots at 14:45 and 20:40. On weekdays, the noon slot will be steered by Luis Garcia and Lucia Taboada, while Ricardo Reyes will helm the evening edition, ensuring consistent coverage across key daily windows.
Matias Prats and Chacón will anchor El Desmarque on Telecinco over the weekend, while Manu Carreño will lead the same program on weekdays during both the midday and prime time slots, further underscoring the network’s strategy to place seasoned anchors at the center of the new sports format.
Earlier this June, Mediaset signaled that the sports reshuffle aims to create a seamless, organic flow of sports news across every viewing and digital touchpoint. The plan is to keep audiences informed with timely updates, live moments, and in-depth analysis, ensuring continuity across Europa League match coverage and other major events. José Antonio Luque is set to continue guiding the narrative around these matches and additional sports events, with editorial oversight spanning multiple content forms to maintain a consistent voice and style across platforms.
