A recent study reveals that gifting for the New Year moves quickly for a notable slice of the Russian population. In a collaborative effort, SberMarket and Rusopros surveyed shoppers, uncovering that some households manage to complete their gift purchases in just a single day. The finding was first shared with socialbites.ca.

Across the respondents, a clear majority—63 percent—reported taking less than a week to round up presents. This suggests a relatively brisk pace for many families as they prepare for the holiday season, prioritizing practicality and timing over prolonged deliberation.

When it comes to attire for the holiday, the data points to a different rhythm. Russians typically allocate about one week to select a festive outfit for New Year’s Eve. A notable portion of participants spends as long as a month on their holiday wardrobe. Among these, women comprise roughly twice the number of men who invest extended time in their outfits. The trend also shows that older participants tend to be less enthusiastic about immersing themselves in a dedicated festive style.

Decorations emerge as another major area of focus. A majority of respondents expects to acquire new holiday decor this year, while roughly 30 percent plan to reuse or keep their existing decorations. This indicates a preference for refreshing the home’s festive ambiance rather than relying on what is already on hand.

As age rises, so does the likelihood of spending no money at all on certain festive items. Analysts observe that about 40 percent of participants prefer to shop for holiday decor through a mix of offline and online channels, seeking convenience and variety in equal measure.

Finally, there is a cultural touchstone referenced by industry insiders: a former perfumer offers guidance on cultivating a proper sense of “Christmas spirit” at home. The advice emphasizes atmosphere, scent, and seasonal rituals as ways to enhance the holiday experience without overextending the budget or the schedule.
