People who worry that crab sticks are risky can swap them out in the classic New Year’s salad with healthier alternatives. This guidance comes from Yakov Mendeleev, a co-founder of Many Salmon, who spoke about it for socialbites.ca.
Rather than crab sticks, affordable fish fillets can be sliced into salads, according to him.
“Pollock, cod, pike perch, pelengas and several others make excellent additions to a Christmas menu. It’s wise to include fish in meals whenever possible because it supplies high-quality protein along with minerals like iron, selenium, zinc and iodine and vitamins B12 and D,” Mendeleev noted.
He also suggested using Greek yogurt as a dressing instead of mayonnaise to craft a healthy salad that could appeal to anyone following a balanced diet.
Natural seafood can effectively substitute crab sticks in a traditional salad, leading to a healthier overall dish.
As an example, shrimp can replace crab sticks in a salad.
“Shrimp may cost more, but it brings more benefits. Shrimp meat is rich in proteins and minerals such as calcium, iodine and magnesium, and it contains little fat, which makes it a good choice for those watching their weight,” the expert added.
He indicated that a combination of boiled shrimp, egg, corn, onion and mayonnaise would still be an appealing option for fans of the classic crab stick salad.
Additionally, Mendeleev suggested substituting crab sticks with squid, octopus or natural crab meat. While these choices may raise the price, they contribute to a more refined and healthier dish.
